Quiet Morning Rituals
Make space for prayer, Scripture, and reflection with a simple morning practice that fits the season you’re in.

Some mornings begin before you feel ready. A child needs you, your phone lights up, and your mind starts listing everything waiting to be done.
Making room for God can begin right there, in the life you already have. A few minutes of prayer and reflection can offer a place to return your attention before the demands of the day take over.
Here are five gentle ways to begin.
1. Pause before reaching for your phone
If your circumstances allow, give yourself a moment before opening messages or scrolling.
Notice how you are arriving at the day. Are you tired, hopeful, worried, or already feeling rushed? You do not need to change your feelings before bringing them to God.
Start with one honest sentence: “Lord, this is where I am today.”
2. Pray about what is actually on your mind
Your prayer can be simple and specific. Bring the conversation you have been avoiding, the decision you need to make, or the responsibility that feels heavy.
You might begin:
“God, thank You for this day. Help me recognize what needs my attention and ask for help where I need it. Give me patience with others and grace for myself. Guide my next step. Amen.”
Let those words become the beginning of your own conversation with Him.
3. Read a short passage of Scripture
Choose a passage you can read slowly, such as Psalm 23. Give yourself time to consider its meaning instead of rushing to finish a chapter.
Ask yourself: What does this passage help me understand about God? How might it shape the way I approach today?
Write down one thought you want to carry with you.
4. Notice one thing you are grateful for
Be specific. Perhaps someone checked on you yesterday. Perhaps you received help, enjoyed a conversation, or found a moment to rest.
Gratitude can sit alongside disappointment and uncertainty. You can appreciate something good while still being honest about what is difficult.
5. Choose one intention for the day
Consider how you want to respond to the people and responsibilities ahead of you.
Perhaps your intention is to listen without rushing, speak honestly, or pause before agreeing to another commitment. Choose something small enough to practice in an ordinary moment.
Let your practice fit your life
Some mornings will give you twenty quiet minutes. Others will offer a brief prayer while you prepare breakfast.
An interruption does not make the time you spent with God meaningless. Return when you can, and allow your practice to change with your responsibilities and energy.
For tomorrow morning, begin with one prayer, one passage, and one thoughtful intention.
A question to reflect on: What would help me make room for God in the morning I actually have?
With love,
Shaday
